Wila as African Leader
"It doesn't matter how much or how little you attain in life. What matters most is your reputation. Honesty and Integrity DO matter"
When the North American tribe, the Mohicans talk of a legacy, they are referring to leaving knowledge, skills, tools and assets for seven future generations. Imagine if we as Africans could think in this manner? What an impact we would have on tommorrow's tommorrow. Wila was not a man of many words, but when he spoke, you listened. Why? Simply because he had gravitus, wisdom, extraordinary charisma and he lived every sphere of his life with a leadership philosophy of excellence. He was able to articulate his words of wisdom in a way that was communicatable to many individuals, based on his life experience of being a leader and based on his numerous engagements with leaders of the world. Wila's legacy will be remembered by future generations of Africa, not because of for some nostaligic or sentimental reason but because his voice, wisdom. stories and experiences shaped Africa and shall continue to shape the future of Africa for a better Africa. The leadership of honesty, integrity, hard work and incredible vision is relevent for all future generations and especially within an African context.
Wila Mung'omba started life from very humble beginnings. He walked to school everyday for over 20 kms back and forth with no shoes, to get a missionary education. He was a happy child and was the eldest child of nine children. He naturally assumed responsibility for himself and his other siblings. As soon as he started earning his first income he and his wife, Linda Eleanor would go on to educate his other siblings, nephews and neices and many individuals who asked for educational assistance. His favorite foods were fish and dried sweet potatoes. He lived near a lake in Mbala and he loved his family. He was a child who had a vision from early on. That vision was to become a great leader and make substantial changes in Africa through different mediums, always with integrity. A big vision for a child who lived under the rule of the British until early manhood. He saw education as his way to endless possibilities. Through one scholarship after another he found his way to the UK to study law. That would form the foundation for his leadership cabilities.
Wila excelled in his leadership roles as banker, lawyer, President, IMF team leader, Chairman of many boards and the list goes on and on. In every leadership role he held, he excelled, and this is what is told and portrayed in Wila's leadership book as a resource and foundational knowledge for all individuals willing to assume their leadership responsibility in Africa for the betterment of Africa today and tommorrow. There are great and formidable leaders in Africa who have contributed successfully and impactfully to our Continent. Their stories need to be documented, told and more importantly used as a resource of excellence and inspiration for future generations who have a belief that Africa can be great.
