Wila Mung'omba As Chairman of Many Boards
Wila Mung'omba was the Chairman and Director of many Boards in Africa and in many other Continents. WIla was Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee as MP of Mporokoso, Chairman of Capital Bank- Cavmont, Executive Chairman of ZCCM-IH, Chairman of the Constitution Review Commission, Executive Director at the IMF, Washington DC, Chairman of the Advisory Boards of the School of Business and Industrial Studies at Copperbelt University, Zambia, Indeni Petroleum Refinery and many other Boards as Director and Trustee. I had the privelege of being a Board member for many years whilst Mr. Mung'omba chaired the Cavmont Bank Board, and his leadership skills as 'Chair' are truly unparalled. As Chairman, i observed he was passionate, strategic, focused and a man of few words- but when he spoke, you listened and implemented his vision.
After serving his term as President of the ADB, Wila Mung'omba had a very concrete vision for his country. That vision he and his wife Linda, firmly and resolutely believed in. Together with Mr and Mrs Penza and a few very close friends they shared this vision with the President of Zambia - Dr. Kenneth Kaunda. The vision - "To set up the first indigenous bank in Zambia". Their vision became concrete and so New Capital Bank Ltd was born. This bank has evolved over time and now stands firmly as Cavmont Bank. The ethos and underlying principal of the bank was to create a home grown indigenous financial institution that intricately understood the financing needs of its' Zambian clientele, and also to ensure that banking was accessible and teachable to many communities that were regarded as 'unbankable'. The current ethos of Cavmont today - 2016 is very much in line with the founders dreams. "....." : "It's possible".
Wila Mung'omba's legacy leadership skills as Chairman:
1. Listen intently to your Board members and executive team.
i.e what is the relevence of what Board members and management team are saying, and more importantly, are NOT saying.
2. Be present and focused.
The business at hand is not only about shareholder wealth creation, but it is about country value creation.
